What Is the Shopify Dev Dashboard?
Shopify has moved app development off the old Partner Dashboard and onto a new Dev Dashboard — the home of its next-generation developer platform. It is now where you create and configure apps, manage stores, and monitor production behaviour. The good news: your organisation, apps and data carry over unchanged, and existing installs keep working.
If you build apps, custom apps or extensions for merchants, this change affects your workflow. Here is what you need to know.
Apps Without Extensions: Nothing to Do
If your app has no extensions, it migrates automatically. There is nothing to opt into and nothing to fix — it simply moves to the Dev Dashboard.
Apps With Extensions: The Migration Steps
Apps with extensions keep working, but to keep building and updating them you need to complete four steps:
1. Update to the latest Shopify CLI. 2. Migrate dashboard-managed extensions to CLI-managed extensions. 3. Switch to CLI-managed app configuration. 4. Run shopify app deploy to add unique uid identifiers to your extensions.
The extension types affected include Admin links, Flow lifecycle events, Flow actions, Flow triggers and marketing activity extensions.
Extensions Are Now CLI-Only
The biggest shift: you can no longer create or manage app extensions from a dashboard. Shopify CLI is now the only way to create, configure and deploy extensions. If your team relied on the dashboard UI for this, that workflow is gone.
When you run the one-time interactive deploy, the CLI generates a uid for each extension from its handle and writes it to shopify.extension.toml. Confirm every extension shows as "updated" — if any show as new or removed, the mapping failed, and removing and re-adding an extension can cause data loss on installed stores. Once it looks right, commit the uid values to source control.
Until this is done, shopify app deploy with force and shopify app dev will fail — so don't skip it.
What Else Moved
- Dev, transfer and collaboration stores are all managed in the Dev Dashboard
- Monitoring and logs now live in the Dev Dashboard
- Compliance webhooks are managed only in your app configuration TOML
- Metafield and metaobject definitions can be configured declaratively
- User permissions are managed through organisation settings
Known Gaps
The rollout has rough edges. Developers have reported missing features compared with the old Partner Dashboard — some insights and app-history views are still being added back. Plan your migration, keep your CLI current, and keep an eye on Shopify's changelog.
What This Means for You
If you run custom or public apps, make sure your build and deploy pipeline is CLI-first and your configuration lives in version control. This is the right direction — more reproducible, more automatable — but it needs a deliberate migration.
